Can I wear the HRM strap and record data, when I am out of my cell phone range and not lose data while open water swimming, then be able to upload the data?

Hi Paul, Yes you can do both. You start/stop the recording by double pressing blue button on the device. Later, once you have your mobile phone, you can sync the data through your Frontier X mobile app.
